A Cappella version Wonderful Christmastime to be released

An a cappella remake of McCartney’s track ‘Wonderful Christmastime’ by Paul, Jimmy Fallon and the Roots will appear on an upcoming compilation album ‘Holiday Rule, Vol. 2’, which will be out October 13th via Capitol Records. The a cappella version got its premiere on The Tonight Show in 2016, where McCartney, Fallon and the Roots performed the song together with the cast of the animated movie Sing.

The version that will appear on Holidays Rule is different: The Roots building a spirited a cappella instrumental – with some seasonal bells thrown in – while Fallon and McCartney share lead vocals. A snippet of the new version has been made available on Spotify:

The original version, released in 1979, was McCartney’s first solo single since 1971. He recorded the song entirely on his own during the McCartney II sessions. Although the members of his 1970’s band Wings were not on the recording, they did appear in the promotional music video:

Holidays Rule contains an array of artists covering Christmas songs, including a second McCartney song. American electronic pop band MUNA reworked his 1983 track ‘Pipes of Peace’. The first Holidays Rule compilation arrived in 2012 and featured music from McCartney, Rufus Wainwright, the Shins, the Head and the Heart, Andrew Bird and more.
